“Life in a Day” is the title of the first film that was completely edited with uploaded videos to YouTube. A small revolution for film culture. The interesting thing about this project is that all videos that were used to edit the film had a simple but emphatic directive: they should represent a snapshot of everyday life of anyone who would like to participate in this great project, with the pattern that had to be recorded on July 24, 2010.

So in early July 2010, YouTube made a call to which about 80,000 thousand people responded, who recorded this little snippet of life resulting in 4500 hours of footage. Those involved in this mammoth project were no others than Oscar winners Kevi MacDonald and Ridley Scott, mastermind behind some of the most iconic movies of our generation: Bladerunner and Alien.

“Life in a Day” takes us into a personal world as seen from the subjective viewpoint of each participant who –through Kevi MacDonald- leads us on a journey around the world. Peru, Ghana, India and the Philippines are just some of the many scenarios that serve to tell an individual story and become part of incredible social panopticon that captures that vague and abstract concept of “present”. Therefore, what most interested the makers of this film was to show the reality that usually gets out of hand in a culture focused towards the future and dominated by the sweet and seductive illusion constructed by the media image.

They go where they came from and there is no negotiation on this issue.

Leaders of the rest of the world keep dictatorships while there are interests and this takes its toll. They destabilized regions by selling weapons and dark businesses when they need chaos. Notice this: the excuse of state secret is no longer valid. More than secret, loud voices are heard about their intentions through platforms like WikiLeaks, those that are continuing to make life impossible. We choose in dubious democratic elections and we decide what, when and how things are done.

Then the time came when it is already clear they represent the interests of large corporations, banks and companies that fraudulently rob us with impunity. You only need to review the measures taken in the current and tiresome economic crisis. Now they have lost their credibility. They, who play the dirty politics of the false democracy, carefully concentrating power in few hands, they are now coming to an end. They might be able to censor information, lock up popular leaders in prisons and make more noise so that their voices are not heard. Fortunately, others come back to touch what they already know. Relentlessly, without mercy. There is no turning back.

We, the people of the north, seem supremely stupid. Smugly erudite and civilized as we think we are, we are easily deceived by the verbiage of the technocrat economy. They have managed to keep us aware of anything. They talk us about economic policy, never social. About figures which our limited consciousness will never be able to manage. They stun us with absurd football shows. They mesmerize us with unique neo-liberal propaganda. Giddy with exhaustion, we go to bed for tomorrow to go to our jobs –those who have one- and they repeat in the coffee hour, literally, the argument that we were taught on TV, newspaper or radio. It is the same in different formats. Let’s stop believing in the plurality of media, because most are the voices of those companies which crave the power. And, please, that the riots in Tunisia and Egypt represent, finally, the principle of an essential change.

Someone once said “keep your imagination alive, because you never know when you’re going to need it.”

The imagination is a break from reality, and it’s important that we always have it within our reach, and get the most out of it.

Imagination signifies play, creativity, and the discovery of new worlds – going one step beyond. The possibilities are endless – and one of them is that a bit of extra imagination can help improve our sex life. Whoever says there’s nothing new anymore refuses to dream, choosing instead to settle for dull routine.

The imagination can be a very powerful tool if you know how and when to use it.

There’s no need to start jumping through hoops in order for each sexual encounter to be different, and better than the one before – don’t drive yourself mad trying to “spice” up your routine. The imagination should just be used whenever the mood takes you – whenever you want to experience something a bit different, and leave the day-to-day every once in a while.
